Acoustic Mother's Day Musings from Punk Poet Laureate Patti Smith

To celebrate Mother's Day, we curated a very intimate performance from Patti Smith of spoken work pieces and her classic songs.

INDUSTRIES:

MUSIC, BEVERAGES, PRIVATE CLUBS

LOCATION:

SOHO HOUSE AUSTIN

CAPACITY:

100

TIMEFRAME:

3 WEEKS

CHALLENGES:

Coordinating travel and accommodations for Smith and her 4 accompanying production team members, securing custom floral arrangements for stage setup, securing hyper-specific AV specs for performance & policing the room for stragglers, operating within strict guidelines for photography, room setup, capacity, and cell phone usage.

Pain points?

Worst-case scenario?

No Mother's Day programming headliner, no opportunity to work with the legend Patti Smith, and no opportunity to showcase local artists like florist / DJ Cassandra Shankman and photographer Cristina Fisher.

Solutions tried before the final?

Was originally set to be held on the rooftop, but we made adjustments to accommodate for sound and capacity.

FOCAL POINTS:

How did they find out about it?

Smith was slated to be in Austin for a live taping at ACL Live and we were fortunate enough to be connected through a local contact.

Who was involved in the decision making process?

CFAL, Soho House Music.

What was most important?

Accommodations for Smith and team, room setup, live sound quality, high-sensitivity content capture, staggered promotional rollout.

RESULTS:

Any qualitative results / intrinsic benefits of note?

Lifelong fans were able to experience an intimate, living-room-style performance from a tenured great, and we introduced Smith to the works of local creatives, photographer Cristina Fisher and florist Cassandra Shankman.

What made it work?

Strong unification with event management and operations teams, room curation, live sound quality.

Did the implementation meet our standards?

3 weeks.

How long did it take?

Yes!

The floral arrangements were beautiful, acoustics were great and you guys did a great job of taking care of a very specific instrument rider.
