Art: Henry Taylor “From Sugar to Shit” Exhibition
With a career spanning a prolific four decades, LA-based artist Henry Taylor is a renaissance creative and unrelenting disruptor. His work is far too expansive to ever rest comfortably in any category. It’s one of the many reasons his career continues to break new ground.
Often acting on historical reference honoring fleeting moments of his subjects life and times, Taylor’s work moves and flows where it should. Hence being tapped for relevant pop culture dealings within the Black art diaspora. He recently aligned with Kendrick Lamar for the Nobel Prize winner’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers festival runs at Primavera and Lollapalooza, where Taylor produced engulfing fabric backdrops for the Compton native’s stage design.
Now, Taylor embarks on another landmark in his anointed career: a major exhibition titled From Sugar to Shit in Paris at Hauser & Wirth. Complete with 30 works that weave a masterful tale of life, normalcy, and how that union stews moments of artistic brilliance, the exhibition is on view until January 7th, 2024.
